National Courier Day 2025 sees launch of industry's first code of practice

SHAH ALAM: A new Code of Practice for Postal Services (CPPS) has been launched to boost service standards and consumer protection in the postal and courier industry.

The code, which was the first in the industry, was officiated by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil during the National Courier Day 2025 celebration at the Shah Alam Convention Centre on Saturday (1 Nov).

Fahmi stated that the courier industry is the backbone of the digital economy.

“Courier industry is valued at more than RM6.8bil annually,” he said, adding that the industry was not free from misuse.

“Syndicates were believed to have used courier services with fake parcels and non-existent delivery addresses to evade the authorities,” he said.

This, he said, was the reason why the courier industry must work closely with the police and the Customs Department.

The CCPS outlines 11 components, including service quality, transparency, fair pricing, environmental responsibility and consumer redress mechanisms

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching and Communications secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, as well as MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali and president of the Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC) and Postal Forum Association, Ronald Tan, were also present.
