Medicals are mandatory, MPs reminded

SPEAKER Tan Sri Johari Abdul has reminded MPs to submit their health reports to Parliament.

He said many lawmakers had yet to undergo their annual medical check-up despite repeated reminders.

“I’ve looked at the list from Parliament, and it’s quite worrying. Many have still not done their medical check-ups,” he said, adding that MPs have until Nov 7 submit their health reports.

Johari said MPs must either make an appointment with health officers at Parliament House or carry out their medical examination at other medical facilities

“This is to ensure we have proper health records. In case anything happens to any of our honourable members, we’ll have their medical information on file,” he said.

The mandatory health screening was announced on Sept 12, 2023, following concerns over MPs’ health after the death of then domestic trade and cost of living minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away post-surgery for a brain haemorrhage on July 23.
