JOHOR BARU: Three men were caught with more than 10kg of drugs worth RM1.3mil during a narcotics operation.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said police went to a residential area in Tampoi between 6pm and 10pm last Wednesday.

“My men arrested three suspects, aged between 27 and 42, during the operation. Further checks inside the house led to the seizure of various types of drugs,” he told reporters at the Johor Baru North police district headquarters yesterday.

Among the seized drugs were 8.16kg of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 2.4kg of ecstasy powder, 24.7g of ketamine, 6.4g of ecstasy pills and 3.2g of Erimin 5 pills.

These drugs, ACP Balveer said, could be supplied to an estimated 35,580 addicts.

“Two of the suspects, who worked as a labourer and a shop assistant, were in the midst of buying drugs from the third man, who acted as a trafficker,” he said.

All three of them tested positive for drugs.

Police also confiscated equipment used to process the drugs, besides two cars and a motorcycle worth more than RM113,000.

ACP Balveer said the syndicate had been active since April.

“Police are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. The success of this case is the result of intelligence-gathering and public cooperation,” he said.
