KULAI: The state Education Department will update the Johor Student Character Programme (KRMJ) by including an anti-bullying module.
Johor education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin (pic) said the module will be implemented across both primary and secondary schools under KRMJ to strengthen the existing framework and address behavioural issues among students.
“We will continue with KRMJ despite the Education Ministry’s plan to introduce a national-level Character Education subject by 2026.
“However, several modules will be enhanced and adjusted to strengthen the existing framework such as a module on bullying to further instil discipline among students,” he told reporters after launching the Digital Literacy Education Yayasan Johor Corporation – Building a Future-Ready Generation programme at SK Sayong Pinang yesterday.
Aznan said bullying-related issues had become a growing concern, prompting the state to consider embedding a dedicated anti-bullying component within KRMJ.
“Johor is special because we not only have KRMJ but also our state-run religious schools which help to shape discipline and strengthen students’ moral and spiritual development.
“We hope the collaboration between the state Education Department through KRMJ and the Islamic Education Department in state religious schools will help prevent social issues among students, particularly those that often go viral on social media,” he added.
Meanwhile, Aznan said there would be no new additions to the Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor (SRBJ) pilot schools next year.
“We will maintain the current four pilot schools for now to properly evaluate their progress and long-term impact on students.
“This process takes time. We want to ensure that it truly benefits the students before expanding the programme to other schools,” he said.
Previously, the KRMJ initiative was introduced in 2017 across all primary and secondary schools in the state.
