Camp leader charged with sex assault

BALIK PULAU: A camp facilitator was charged with three counts of committing physical sexual assault on a 12-year-old boy two weeks ago.

Mohamad Firdaus Abdul Shukor, 33, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before Magistrate Chia Huey Ting.

The father of two is accused of committing the offences at a camp in Kampung Genting between 4.09am and 4.30am on Oct 12.

The charges under Sections 14(a) and 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provide for imprisonment up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

The court later referred the case to the Sessions Court for the bail process, setting Oct 28 for mention and appointment of counsel, Bernama reported.

Deputy public prosecutor R. Lushani appeared for the prosecution while Mohamad Firdaus was unrepresented.
