12-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Pond at Kampung Penchu, Johor


TANGKAK: A 12-year-old girl drowned after reportedly falling into a pond at Kampung Penchu near Kundang Ulu here on Saturday afternoon (Oct 25).

Bukit Gambir Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Johar Tumin said they received a distress call about the incident at around 2.19pm.

“A team of seven firefighters was deployed to the scene, located about 7km from the station. Upon arrival, we found that a young girl had fallen into a pond about two metres deep,” he said.

Johar added that the rescue team conducted surface searches and used grappling irons to locate the victim.

“The girl was found at 3.10pm and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he added.

Johar said the victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further action before ending the operation at 3.43pm.
