Tertiary institutions can opt for online classes during meet

PUTRAJAYA: Public and private institutions of higher learning in the Klang Valley will have the leeway to conduct online or physical Teaching and Learning (PdP) sessions during the Asean Summit, says the Higher Education Ministry.

It urged these higher education institutions, particularly those located in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, to review the time and dates of road closure that would be implemented from Oct 26 to 28.

This would help institutions assess the need for online sessions to ensure that their staff and students are not affected by traffic disruptions caused by road closures during the summit period, it said.

“This flexibility is provided to ensure the well-being of staff and students, allowing them to plan their movements while ensuring that the teaching and learning process runs smoothly,” said the ministry in a statement, Bernama reported.

It advised students and staff who may be affected to contact their respective institutions of higher learning to obtain further information.

Six major highways and 25 major roads across the Klang Valley will be gradually diverted in conjunction with the Asean Summit.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the affected highways include the North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Guthrie Corridor Expressway, North-South Expressway, MEX Highway and KL-Seremban Expressway.

Among the roads affected are Lebuh Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Putrajaya Ring Road, as well as several major roads in the city, such as Jalan Istana, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Kuching.

The 47th Asean Summit starting this Sunday marks the culmination of Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean in 2025.
