Myanmar woman and boyfriend die in suspected murder-suicide

JOHOR BARU: A Myanmar woman was believed to have been murdered by her boyfriend in an incident at a workers’ hostel in Jalan Austin Heights here.

Johor Baru South district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the 33-year-old victim, who sustained stab and slash wounds, was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend, also a Myanmar national, at about 7.40pm on Monday.

He said a 23-year-old foreign woman and a 27-year-old local man were injured while trying to prevent the suspect from attacking the victim.

“The suspect was later found dead at the same location with a 24cm knife, and is believed to have taken his own life after the incident,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

ACP Raub said police were working to identify the suspect as no identification documents were found, and the cause of the incident was still under investigation.

He said the two injured witnesses were receiving treatment, while post-mortems on both bodies were being conducted at Hospital Sultan Ismail here.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Johor Baru South district police headquarters at 07-218 2323.
