Man remanded seven days over robbery of former USM vice chancellor’s residence


GEORGE TOWN: A 52-year-old man has been remanded for seven days following a robbery at the residence of former Universiti Sains Malaysia vice chancellor Tan Sri Prof Emeritus Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspect will be remanded from Saturday (Oct 18) until Friday (Oct 24).

On Friday (Oct 17), state police chief Comm Datuk Azizee Ismail said police arrested the suspect in Bayan Baru to assist investigations.

The suspect was detained after police received information about a robbery at about 6.45am in which the educationist suffered a head injury.

The incident is believed to have occurred near his house in Taman Pekaka when he was returning home after morning prayers.

He received several stitches to his head after being struck with a weapon by the suspect.

It is learnt the 75-year-old former rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia is recovering from the trauma of the incident.
