Weekly 60-minute slot allocated for character-building activities at primary and secondary school levels

PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry announced that a dedicated 60-minute weekly slot will be allocated in the school timetable for character-building activities under the upcoming 2027 school curriculum.

The character-building programme was an initiative introduced as part of the new curriculum framework, aimed at nurturing individuals of noble character, courtesy and responsibility.

In a statement on Friday (Oct 17), the ministry said the programme represents a strategic shift to strengthen the cultivation of noble values among students in a structured and comprehensive manner.

“At the preschool level, character building will be implemented in an integrated manner through daily learning activities.

“Meanwhile, for primary and secondary schools, a dedicated 60-minute weekly period will be provided in the timetable to enable planned and focused character development activities,” the statement read.

The ministry also said the programme emphasises teaching and learning activities that cultivate values, positive behaviour, and the practice of good manners and ethics within students’ daily lives.

“It also reflects the Education Ministry’s commitment to nurturing a holistic generation—one that excels academically while possessing strong character and identity,” it added.
