Doctor pleads not guilty to insulting modesty of two foreign women


GEORGE TOWN: A doctor was charged in two Magistrates' Courts on Friday (Oct 17) with four counts of molestation and indecent assault involving two foreign women in February.

Dr Goon Hoong Tatt, 43, of Penang Hospital, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before magistrates Nur Fadrina Zulkhairi and Muhammad Amzar Ismail.

In the court before magistrate Nur Fadrina Zulkhairi, Dr Goon was charged with two counts of intending to insult the modesty of one of the foreign women by allegedly ordering her to undress and instructing her to stand and run around naked.

The charges were framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum imprisonment of five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The doctor was also charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code with using criminal force against the woman with the intent to outrage her modesty by allegedly touching her breast.

He faces imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.

All the offences were allegedly committed in the clinical examination room of the Penang Hospital forensic department between 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Feb 20 this year.

Dr Goon was allowed bail of RM3,500 on each count and also ordered not to disturb the victim and witnesses.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Lau Shavin prosecuted in the case.

Meanwhile, in the court before Magistrate Muhammad Amzar Ismail, Dr Goon was charged with intending to insult the modesty of the other foreign woman by asking her to run around naked in the same place at 9.30pm on Feb 26 this year.

The magistrate allowed Dr Goon, represented by lawyer N. Tishalini, bail of RM7,000 and also ordered him not to intimidate witnesses in the case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Nur Farihin Ahmad appeared for the prosecution.

Both magistrates set Nov 27 for mention. – Bernama
