KUALA SELANGOR: Barisan Nasional will also field candidates from MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), in addition to Umno, for the 17th Sabah state election.
“MIC, on the other hand, is less likely to contest due to the small number of Indian voters in Sabah,” said Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Most of Barisan’s candidates will be new faces, while we will also retain some of the existing ones. We will also increase the number of professionals to represent Barisan.
“The cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan has been finalised.
“There will be no overlapping of seats,” he told reporters after attending the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 outreach programme here yesterday, Bernama reported.
On the number of seats Barisan will contest, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister, said the details will be announced on nomination day.
On Oct 6, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah state assembly to pave the way for the 17th state election.
The state assembly has 79 seats, of which 73 are contested, while six are appointed assemblymen.
The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on Oct 16 to discuss key dates and other matters related to the election.
