IPOH: The police are now on a manhunt for two individuals believed to be trying to distribute drugs worth about RM13mil in the Klang Valley.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the two suspects managed to flee on foot following a car chase near KM375 of the North-South Expressway near Slim River at about 1.30pm on Monday.
He said a highway patrol team from the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department spotted the car and signalled the driver to stop prior to the chase.
“The car eventually stopped after a 2km chase but the suspects managed to escape into the forest.
“Efforts are now ongoing to track down the two suspects,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
Comm Noor Hisam said 385kg of drugs, consisting of methamphetamine and heroin, were found in the backseat and trunk.
“We found 15 gunny sacks believed to be 374kg of methamphetamine and one black plastic bag containing what is believed to be about 11.281kg of heroin.
“The drugs were also packed to resemble commercial products, possibly to deceive the police,” he said, adding that the drugs could be supplied to 3.7 million drug addicts.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he added.
Comm Noor Hisam also said the car was found to have been registered under a woman’s name.
“The car was not stolen and we will investigate the relationship the woman has with the two men,” he added.
