KUALA LUMPUR: There is no interference in the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) online bidding system, JPJeBid, from any interested parties, says Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.
The Deputy Transport Minister said JPJ is aware of specific individuals or scalpers who “resell” vehicle registration numbers after successfully bidding for them through the JPJeBid system.
“JPJ has never recognised any resale of registration numbers conducted on unofficial platforms. The public is strongly advised to obtain registration numbers only through official JPJ channels to ensure transparency and integrity in the process,” he said when wrapping up his ministerial replies during the debate on the Auditor‑General’s Report in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
As a control measure against users attempting to manipulate the resale of registration numbers, Hasbi said the JPJeBid system only allows individuals to win a maximum of five numbers and companies a maximum of three numbers, within a single bidding series.
He said the resale of registration numbers for the purpose of making an easy profit after a legitimate and orderly bidding process is considered a private transaction.
Such a transaction, Hasbi stressed, falls outside JPJ’s jurisdiction.
He said JPJ will continuously monitor and take full responsibility for managing and collecting public bidding proceeds for vehicle registration numbers through the JPJeBid system.
