KUALA LUMPUR: Critical projects to address issues related to floods, water supply and energy will be among the focus of Budget 2026, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said issues concerning the cost of living will receive particular attention in the budget, as the government aims to assist the populace during these uncertain economic times.

“The focus of the budget is more on helping our people with critical projects, flood issues, water supply and energy, as well as providing support for them,” he told reporters after launching the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo (NICE) 2025.

The Deputy Prime Minister also expects the government to continue to pay attention to education and health, which are usually important core aspects of every budget.

Fadillah said Budget 2026 is also expected to continue to pay attention to Sabah and Sarawak.

“I’m confident that under the government and leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and due to the sheer size of Sabah and Sarawak, annual allocations for the states will be increased,” he said, Bernama reported.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, will present Budget 2026 on Friday.

The Prime Minister had previously said that preparations for Budget 2026 would be aligned with the economic priorities of each state, rather than being determined solely at the ministerial level.

The approach is to ensure steady economic growth without neglecting the needs of the people, particularly in coping with the cost of living.
