ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have seized more than 14kg of drugs worth about RM168,000 following the arrest of four people.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the suspects, aged between 24 and 41, were detained in separate operations on Sept 30.
“Among those arrested is a 41-year-old man believed to be the mastermind of a drug syndicate that has been active since May this year.
“His arrest followed the detention of a couple who were nabbed after being spotted acting suspiciously near a petrol station in Bukit Indah.
“Interrogation of the couple led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man believed to be the middleman, who then revealed the mastermind,” he said at a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters yesterday.
ACP Kumarasan said the couple, aged 24 and 29, are believed to be drug users and customers of the mastermind.
“About 13,806g of heroin worth RM132,538 and 1,110g of syabu worth RM35,520 were seized when the mastermind was arrested at a shoplot,” he said.
Separately, ACP Kumarasan said police personnel from mobile patrol vehicle units arrested two individuals in Mutiara Rini in Skudai at about 3.20am on Sept 30.
“The arrest of the two men, aged 23 and 25, led to the seizure of drugs worth about RM72,000.
“The drugs confiscated comprised 1,819g of syabu and 2,837g of heroin,” he said, adding that both suspects tested positive for drugs.
All suspects are being investigated under Sections 15(1)(a), 12(2) and 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In another case, ACP Kumarasan said police arrested two men, including a foreigner, believed to be involved in cable thefts since September.
He said the duo were arrested between Sept 27 and 29.
“We found a large sack containing about 8kg of cables, believed to have been stolen from construction and industrial sites around Gelang Patah.
“We believe they have been selling the stolen cables to a scrap shop in Masai,” ACP Kumarasan added.
