TWO teachers were found to have sexually harassed female students at an independent Chinese school in Johor.
China Press reported that this was concluded by an internal probe conducted by the school’s administration following accusations against four teaching staff members earlier this year.
It was announced on Saturday that the five-member independent investigation panel had enough evidence to conclude that two teachers had sexually harassed female students.
The panel said both teachers are no longer working at the school.
The panel found that one teacher had repeatedly made statements which were sexist and akin to sexual harassment since 2010, and had even received a warning letter about his behaviour in 2018.
The second teacher was found to have made inappropriate physical contact with female students between 2010 and 2013, including touching their heads, shoulders and hands.
The incident sparked a #MeToo movement at the school over sexual harassment claims.
The administration announced that the safety of its students was of the utmost importance and promised to thoroughly investigate any claims made.
> A lion at a zoo in China has gained so much weight that visitors started complaining that it looked like a ball with four legs, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Visitors to the Chengdu Zoo recently shared videos of a lion there which had a belly that drooped to the ground.
It appeared to have difficulty moving and was seen slumped in one spot for long periods.
In response to complaints, the zoo said the lion in the videos was a 12-year-old African lion.
Due to its age, its metabolism has slowed. Coupled with limited exercise, the zoo admitted that the animal was “moderately overweight”.
A staff member revealed that the lion had been put on a weight-loss programme for over a year, but it had failed to shed the weight.
They added that the zoo was trying to adjust the lion’s food portion, feeding methods and encouraging it to move more.
