Police arrest four over 14kg of drugs in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: Police seize over 14kg of drugs worth about RM168,000 following the arrest of four individuals in a series of raids here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the suspects, aged 24 to 41, were detained in separate operations on Tuesday (Sept 30).

“Among those arrested was a 41-year-old man believed to be the mastermind of a drug syndicate that has been active since May this year.

“His arrest followed the detention of a couple who were nabbed after being spotted acting suspiciously near a petrol station in Bukit Indah.

“Interrogation of the couple led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man believed to be the middleman, who then revealed the mastermind,” he said at a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri police headquarters on Monday (Oct 6).

ACP Kumarasan said the couple, aged 24 and 29, were believed to be drug users and customers of the mastermind.

“Some 13,806g of heroin worth RM132,538 and 1,110g of syabu worth RM35,520 were seized during the mastermind’s arrest at a shoplot,” he said.

In a separate case, ACP Kumarasan said mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) units arrested two individuals in Mutiara Rini at about 3.20am on Tuesday.

“The arrest of the two men, aged 23 and 25, led to the seizure of drugs worth about RM72,000.

“The drugs confiscated comprised 1,819g of syabu and 2,837g of heroin,” he said, adding that both suspects also tested positive for drug use.

ACP Kumarasan said all suspects are being investigated under Sections 15(1)(a), 12(2) and 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
