PETALING JAYA: Investigations into social media postings that could potentially incite civil unrest have led to the arrest of seven people in separate incidents by Bukit Aman.
In a statement on Monday (Oct 6), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said that the arrests were made between Sept 17 and Sunday following investigations into videos that had been uploaded on TikTok and Facebook.
The videos, he said, contained seditious elements. One of the suspects also uttered threats to the nation's leaders.
The cases are being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, the Penal Code and the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.
Checks showed that one suspect had 19 prior narcotics offences, with another having previously been investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"The seven suspects have been arrested. The courts have since issued remand periods between one to three days to allow the police to conduct further investigations.
"The police strongly warn all to avoid misusing social media and digital platforms in ways that insult, create unrest, make threats or seditious content, as such actions will not be tolerated at all, " he said.
