JOHOR BARU: Petrol station operators here have been reminded to ensure that foreign-registered vehicle owners, regardless of nationality, do not use RON95.
The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has also stepped up enforcement, especially near the border here.
“Checks in these areas have already been frequent, but we will step up enforcement further,” the ministry’s Johor director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said after checking on the implementation of the Budi95 initiative along Jalan Yahya Awal yesterday.
Asked if Malaysians using foreign-registered vehicles have expressed disappointment over not being able to use RON95, Lilis Saslinda said it is expected.
“That is normal, but I believe the government is doing its best to ensure all Malaysians benefit from the subsidy.
On the rollout of Budi95, she said everything has been running smoothly so far.
Among those spotted fuelling up at a petrol station here was civil servant Shahrul Akmal Md Isa, 40, who said he did not face any difficulties getting the subsidised RON95.
“So far, it is simple and quick,” he said.
James Chen, a 34-year-old cook, said he had anticipated a long wait at the petrol station but was pleasantly surprised by the smooth process.
“I think petrol stations have also made all preparations to ensure the system runs smoothly,” he said.
