A welcome aid for fishermen

KUALA LUMPUR: The Budi95 initiative, which sets RON95 petrol price at 1.99 per litre with a 300-litre monthly eligibility limit, will ease the rising cost of living and provide relief to fishermen.

National Fishermen’s Association of Malaysia (Nekmat) chairman Abdul Hamid Bahari described Budi95 as a proactive step by the government in ensuring the welfare and livelihood of about 85,000 of its members nationwide.

“Nekmat is confident this effort will boost the spirit and motivation of fishermen to increase their catch, thus contributing to the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s food security for the welfare of the people,” it said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

Budi95 was rolled out in phases, starting with 300,000 military and police personnel on Saturday, before reaching over five million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah recipients on Sunday.

A total of 16 million Malaysians started receiving benefits under the initiative yesterday.
