Sabah PKR member lodges police report against Shafie over Zara comments

PKR's Fekirie Gobet after lodging a police report.

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah PKR member has lodged a police report against Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal over his alleged comments on Zara Qairina Mahathir's death.

PKR's Fekirie Gobet said that Shafie's comments during a political gathering in east coast Sandakan could be sub judice to the ongoing inquest into the death of the 13-year-old girl who died from an apparent fall at her school hostel in Papar.

Fekirie said he lodged the police report at the Putatan police station here on Monday (Sept 22).

"I filed this report due to Shafie's actions which clearly undermines the Coroner's Court by questioning the ongoing legal process.

"He has also disregarded the ongoing legal process and continued to draw conclusions in public," he said, referring to Shafie's statement at the campaign purportedly drawing a conclusion to Zara Qairina's death.

"All parties want to seek justice for Zara Qairina, but how can we get justice with perception and alleged slander," he said, adding that Shafie's statement could undermine public confidence and the integrity of the judicial process.

Fekirie claimed that Shafie’s alleged remarks could disrupt the process of fact-finding in the inquest and put undue pressure on the investigator or coroner that could potentially distort the independent assessment of the facts.

"Shafie needs to stop his madness by riding the issue of Zara Qairina death. I said before, stop building your political palace on Zara's grave and the tears of her family," he added.
