KUALA PILAH: The matrilineal Adat Perpatih tradition took centre stage at the 2025 Madani Adopted Village Customs and Traditions programme in Seri Menanti.
Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said the programme is vital for preserving heritage while promoting consensus, respect for leadership and community values that have long underpinned societal stability.
He said the values of Adat Perpatih – consensus, protecting dignity and mutual respect – align with Malaysia Madani’s principles, which focus on creating an inclusive, compassionate and harmonious society, Bernama reported.
“Events like this not only honour our heritage but also remind us that traditional values can flourish alongside modern aspirations.
“I hope today’s youth view customs not just as a ritual but as a guiding way of life that fosters discipline, unity and a love for the nation,” Wan Ahmad said at the event, organised by the Public Service Department at Kampung Sungai Layang yesterday.
He said in addition to promoting cultural appreciation, the programme has the potential to be developed into a tourism attraction, giving both young people and visitors the chance to experience Adat Perpatih firsthand in Negri Sembilan.
Wan Ahmad said this initiative reflects PSD’s commitment to strengthening Malaysia Madani values not just through administrative policies but also through cultural heritage.
“The strength of a nation lies in its cultural diversity, embraced through consensus and directed towards achieving shared prosperity.”
He said the Kampung Angkat Madani initiative not only delivers physical development to villages but also promotes a holistic approach that links public services directly with local communities.
