PETALING JAYA: Students stranded and unable to attend school in Sabah and Sarawak due to floods can continue their lessons through home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).
In a statement on Friday (Sept 19), the Education Ministry said it is preparing for the reopening of schools following the Term 2 holiday of the 2025/2026 academic session.
“This includes cleaning works and maintenance assistance for flood-affected schools.
“Parents, guardians, teachers, officers, and support staff who are affected are requested to inform their respective schools or departments about their situations,” the statement read.
The ministry also said students affected by the floods have the flexibility to attend classes without wearing their school uniforms.
Additionally, it is providing assistance to affected students in terms of learning materials as well as psychosocial and emotional support.
According to the ministry, 69 schools in Sabah and Sarawak have been affected by floods, while seven educational institutions in Sabah are operating as temporary relief centres as of Sept 19.
“Of the schools affected, 33 primary schools and five secondary schools are in Sabah, while 28 primary schools and three secondary schools are in Sarawak.
“Schools and district education offices are advised to obtain the latest flood situation updates from the state disaster management committee secretariat, the state education department, and related agencies,” it added.
