Man with mental illness dies after running amok in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A man who suffered from mental illness has died after running amok at his family home in Taman Desa Baru, Gelugor here.

North-east OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said they received a report from the man's sister at 3.58am on Friday (Sept 12), who said her younger brother had gone on a rampage and requested police assistance.

"When police arrived at the scene, they found a 48-year-old man lying unconscious face down in the kitchen. Personnel from Penang Hospital at the location confirmed his death.

"Investigations revealed that the man, who had a history of mental illness, went on a rampage at home and threatened family members," he said in a statement on Friday.

He said the man collapsed and lost consciousness during the incident.

Abdul Rozak said a post-mortem examination conducted found fluid in the lungs as the cause of death, while police investigations found no elements of foul play.

The case has been classified as sudden death. – Bernama
