RM400,000 in subsidised cooking oil seized in Mantin raid

SEREMBAN: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 4,000kg of subsidised cooking oil from a factory during a raid in Mantin near here.

State Domestic Trade and Cost of Living department director Muhammad Zahir Mazlan said it was believed that the seized oil was to be transferred into 5kg bottles, which are not entitled to subsidy.

"The individuals behind the illegal activity were believed to have been transferring the cooking oil into the 5kg bottles at night to avoid detection.

"The GOF also seized machinery used to bottle the 5kg cooking oil as well as related items used in the illegal activity," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 11).

Muhammad Zahir said the seized oil and machinery, which was worth more than RM400,000 has since been handed over to his department.

The case, he said, is being probed under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which carries a fine not exceeding RM1mil or imprisonment of less than three years or both upon conviction.

He reminded the public that any form of misuse of subsidised goods was a serious offence.

Those with information on such activity can send a complaint to the ministry at its WhatsApp number at 019 848 800, its call centre at 1 800 886 800 or its portal e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my
