MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states until 5pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and territories, with warnings in effect until 5pm on Wednesday (Sept 10).

In Perak, districts such as Larut, Matang, and Selama are forecast to be affected by severe weather while in Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds.

As for Pahang, areas including Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, and Kuantan are under the warning.

In Selangor, residents are advised to be vigilant as adverse conditions are expected and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also included in the alert.

Similarly, in Negeri Sembilan, Jelebu, Seremban, and Kuala Pilah are on alert for severe weather.

In Johor, regions such as Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru are expected to face thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), Sibu, Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song, Kapit, and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu), Miri (Subis, Telang Usan, and Miri), and Limbang.

In Sabah, interior districts such as Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, and Beaufort are forecast to experience adverse conditions.

The Federal Territory of Labuan is also included in the alert.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
