Two Pakistani men charged with smuggling nine countrymen into Malaysia


KOTA BHARU: Two Pakistani men were charged in the Sessions Court here on Tuesday (Sept 9) with smuggling fellow countrymen into the country.

However, no plea was recorded from Sajjad Saeed Abdul, 27, and Hameed Gul Mehrab, 32, after the charges were read out before Judge Zulkifli Abllah, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, Sajjad is alleged to have smuggled five Pakistani migrant men using a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on Jalan Bypass Machang-Kuala Krai, here, at about 9pm last Aug 13.

As for Hameed, he is charged with smuggling four Pakistani migrant men in a Perodua Myvi car on Jalan Kampung Telaga Tujuh, here, at about 10.10pm the same day.

The two men were charged under Section 26J and 36(1) of the Smuggling of Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 for engaging in the conveyance of smuggled migrants, which provides imprisonment for up to five years and a maximum fine of RM250,000 or both, if convicted.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim, while both accused were unrepresented.
