Mat Sabu: In-depth study on how to sell more local rice is being conducted

KOTA BHARU: The Agriculture and Food Ministry is conducting an in-depth study on the current lack of marketability of local rice, says its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He mentioned that one reason for the poor sales of local rice was that its price was not much different from that of imported rice.

“Local rice is priced at RM26 for 10kg. When the price of imported rice is not much different from the local price, people overlook local rice. So, we have to launch a campaign to promote local rice," he said.

Mohamad said this to reporters after the mobile bus banking service and Madani Adopted Village launch ceremony at Kampung Pantai Mek Ma here on Saturday (Sept 6).

Agrobank president and group chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin also attended the event.

When asked about the termination of the egg subsidy, Mohamad Sabu said the price of eggs in the market was under control, although the subsidy ended on Aug 1.

"So far, the price is under control," he added. – Bernama
