Cops nab three motorcyclists for reckless riding during ops in Iskandar Puteri

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested three men, including two teenagers, for riding their motorcycles recklessly and dangerously along the highway here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M Kumarasan said an operation led by a senior officer and seven personnel was carried out at Nusajaya highway, Second Link highway towards Tuas and around Kangkar Pulai, early Saturday (Sept 6).

These locations were identified as hotspots for motorcycle groups to carry out dangerous activities such as illegal racing and performing dangerous stunts.

Three individuals aged 18 to 20 were arrested after they were allegedly riding their motorcycles recklessly and dangerously, he said in a statement on Sept 6.

He added the arrests were made following inspections on 20 individuals aged between 15 and 29 and 20 motorcycles.

Twenty-four summonses were issued for various offences such as not complying with vehicle specifications set by the Road Transport Department.

Thirteen motorcycles were also seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for various offences such as modifying vehicle structures (exhaust), fancy registration numbers and not following regulations, no driving licence, side mirrors, insurance protection and others, he said.

Kumarasan said the three arrested were detained for further investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 while the vehicles involved were seized under Section 64 of the same Act.

“I am giving a stern warning and there will be no compromise against any individuals who try to carry out street gangster activities in this area which clearly endanger themselves and other road users.

This operation will be carried out continuously to prevent illegal racing activities and to ensure safety and public order in this area,” he said.
