Hajiji says upcoming Sabah election will be his last

KOTA KINABALU: The coming state election will be the last for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He announced this while addressing crowds at SK Bundung, Tuaran, during the opening of the new school hall on Thursday (Aug 21).

“I have been serving for over 35 years and this state election will be my last,” said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman.

Hajiji said he never expected to be given the mandate to become the state’s top leader and feels it is time to pass the baton to newer and younger leaders.

He has mentioned this previously, especially to his constituents in Sulaman and has also said he will lead GRS into the next term and then allow new leaders to take over.

Hajiji stressed the importance of giving new and rising leaders a chance to steer the state’s politics.
