Second suspect remanded in RM3.8mil land sale fraud investigation

The suspect being taken to the Magistrate's court to be remanded.

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has secured a seven-day remand for a second suspect in its investigation into a fraud attempt involving RM3.8mil from a land sale.

On Thursday (Aug 14), Magistrate Saiful Sayoti signed the order allowing the MACC's application to remand the suspect, a businessman in his 40s, until Aug 20.

The MACC, on Aug 5, had obtained a similar order for a land broker suspected of using a land title with falsified details to obtain the money.

The suspect's remand was extended by three days on Aug 11.

A source said the second suspect was detained when he arrived to give a statement at the state MACC office here around 11pm on Wednesday (Aug 13).

"Based on preliminary investigations, the businessman had conspired with another suspect to get their hands on the cash," he said.

The land, in Lenggeng near here, belonged to another individual.

When contacted at the time of the suspect's arrest, Negri Sembilan MACC chief Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed that the case was still under investigation.
