Civil servant, six contractors arrested in Melaka for catering fraud

MELAKA: A fraudulent catering claim of RM139,100 for unserved meals has resulted in the arrest of a civil servant and six contractors after investigators uncovered falsified documents from six service providers.

The suspects, clad in orange lock-up attire, arrived at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here on Thursday (August 14), under the escort of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.

A remand order until Aug 18 was issued by Magistrate N. Sivashangari against the four men and three women, aged 32 to 52.

According to a MACC source, the group was detained on Wednesday (August 13) after they arrived at the Melaka MACC headquarters in Alai to give their statements.

The suspects were believed to have submitted false documents from six separate companies to claim payment for the catering services, despite no such services having been delivered in 2024.
