Govt may revisit plans to set up MTSB, says Transport Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry is currently considering reviving its plan to establish the Malaysian Transport Safety Board (MTSB), says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the decision comes amid the recent alarming number of tragic road accidents, such as the one in Teluk Intan, which claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit officers.

“It will be a long process to develop a preliminary proposal and bring it to Cabinet for approval.

“Only after it is approved, can we set up a task force to hash out the details.

“If all goes well, we will then have a draft plan which we can then bring to Parliament for debate and final approval,” Loke said during Minister's Question Time at Parliament on Wednesday (Aug 13).

Loke was responding to a supplementary question from Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut) on the ministry’s plan to revive the setup of MTSB.
