Scams, driving down the crime rate among priorities for new Penang top cop

GEORGE TOWN: Tackling scam cases and ensuring that the downward trend in crime continues are among the priority areas for newly-appointed Penang police chief Comm Datuk Azizee Ismail.

Comm Azizee said he was informed that the crime rate in the state had decreased and added: "We will try to maintain (this decrease) or even better, reduce the rate even further.

"The situation here is now peaceful and nice.

"I will try to maintain things as they are and make any improvements after I have held discussions with heads of department and the OCPDs," he said after the handing over of duties ceremony here on Monday (Aug 11).

He also said he would instruct the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department to address scams, which are continuing to inflict financial distress across the country.

Comm Azizee, 59, takes over from acting state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.

The ceremony was witnessed by Bukit Aman Management Department director Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.

Comm Azizee was previously the deputy director of Management (Administration) at Bukit Aman with the rank of DCP.
