Police seize 70 sacks of firecrackers in Rantau Panjang

KOTA BARU: A total of 70 sacks of ball firecrackers worth about RM89,000 and a vehicle were seized by the General Operations Force (GOF) 8th Battalion at an illegal crossing near Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas on Sunday (Aug 10).

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the seizure was carried out at 1.30pm after his party spotted a vehicle in a suspicious condition during Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan.

"The suspect who was driving the vehicle fled on a boat towards Thailand as soon as he realised the police presence.

"Further inspection of the vehicle found 70 sacks containing firecrackers believed to be for the local market," he said in a statement on Monday.

He said all the seized items were handed over to the Pasir Mas district police headquarters for further action and the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957. - Bernama
