Ab Rahaman takes over as new Johor police chief

JOHOR BARU: Johor police welcomed a new top cop following a handover ceremony held earlier on Monday (Aug 4), marking the official appointment of Comm Ab Rahaman Arsad as the state’s new police chief.

Comm Ab Rahaman, 58, previously served as Bukit Aman’s Management Department (services and staffing) deputy director before taking over the helm of Johor police contingent from Comm Datuk M. Kumar.

Comm Kumar, 56, who held the post since Jan 24, 2024, will now assume his new role as the Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director.

During the ceremony held at Johor police headquarters here, Comm Kumar handed over the official duty notes and the baton of command to Comm Ab Rahaman, witnessed by Bukit Aman Management Department director Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.

Earlier, Comm Abdul Aziz also officiated the rank-pinning ceremony to mark Comm Ab Rahaman’s promotion to Commissioner of Police.

Hailing from Kulai, Comm Ab Rahaman began his policing career in 1989 and has held several key positions, including as the head of the management department in the Negri Sembilan and Kedah police contingents.

Comm Kumar, who joined the police as an inspector on Dec 1, 1991, had previously served as the Johor deputy police chief, state police CID deputy chief, Johor Baru South deputy OCPD and Mersing OCPD.

The event also saw a handover ceremony for the Johor contingent’s Police Family Association (Perkep) chairmanship from Datin SP Shanthi to Salwah Mahdan, witnessed by Bukit Aman Management Department Perkep chairperson Datin Seri Selmiah Tuan Ibrahim.
