WALES (UNITED KINGDOM): LBS Bina Group Bhd executive chairman and The Federation of Hokkien Associations Malaysia president Tan Sri Ir. Dr Lim Hock San made a triumphant return to his alma mater, Cardiff University, United Kingdom, as a distinguished alumni speaker.

Delivering an inspiring address on the final day of the university’s graduation ceremony, Lim shared personal reflections, leadership insights and words of encouragement with the graduating class in front of over 1,000 graduands, marking a proud and memorable moment in his journey from student to prominent industry leader.

A First-Class Honours graduate in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University in 1982, Lim’s early academic excellence was further recognised when he won Second Prize in the British Steel Corporation Competition for his innovative design of a football grandstand using hollow steel sections.

From these early achievements, he carved a path of bold entrepreneurship — beginning in a humble truck transportation business and evolving it into the award-winning LBS, renowned for its transformative and community-focused townships.

“Success rarely comes in a straight line,” Lim told the graduates.

“There will be sharp corners, detours and moments of doubt, but your integrity, your values and your grit will carry you further than you can imagine. What you build with your life matters, so build it well.”

Lim encouraged the graduates to face the future with confidence, compassion and a sense of purpose.

“As you step into this next chapter, embrace uncertainty with courage. The world needs your ideas, your energy and your leadership.”

A recipient of more than 100 awards and accolades throughout his distinguished career, Lim was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Management by UNITAR International University in 2023, in recognition of his contributions to nation-building and leadership excellence. He is also currently serving as an adjunct professor at the same university.

Cardiff University expressed its sincere appreciation to Lim for his inspiring address and congratulated the graduating class of 2025 on reaching this significant milestone.
