KOTA KINABALU: Three people were arrested in Tawau over the weekend for alleged criminal intimidation in separate incidents.
In the first case on Sunday (July 13), a woman allegedly brought a gang of four men to intimidate her female landlord, who refused to renew her shop rental contract.
The victim was allegedly beaten, kicked and threatened with being burnt along with her premises, Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said on Monday (July 14).
He said in the 12.30pm incident, the 36-year-old suspect also threatened to "not let her go" if she saw her landlord on the street.
The victim lodged a police report for her safety and two suspects, a woman and a 27-year-old man, were detained at 4.30pm the same day.
ACP Jasmin said the woman has no priors while the man has four drug and crime offences on his record.
“This case is being investigated for criminal intimidation and causing hurt,” he said.
In another incident, a former convict was nabbed for allegedly driving recklessly and later threatening a woman last week.
ACP Jasmin said the 32-year-old suspect was picked up in front of a building in Tawau township at around 2.50pm on Sunday.
He said that according to the victim's report, she was driving along Jalan Apas at around 1pm on Wednesday (July 9) when the man suddenly drove out from a junction, almost causing an accident.
She honked, but the man stopped his car, got out and made a rude gesture towards her and acted as if he wanted to fight, ACP Jasmin added.
He said it was found that the suspect has six drug offences on his record from Papar, Kuala Lumpur and Tawau.
“We are investigating this case for reckless driving and endangering other road users,” he said, urging the public to be mindful on the road and to abide by regulations.
