Foreign worker caught with 20kg meth at KL shopping mall


KUALA LUMPUR: A foreign worker has been arrested with 20.85kg of methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM80,000, in a shopping mall in Taman Melawati, Ampang here.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said that the 50-year-old man was detained in the area at 12.35pm on Saturday (June 21).

"Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had been residing in the country for approximately 10 years and a urine test showed he was positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. However, he has no prior criminal record," he said in a statement here on Tuesday (June 24).

Mohd Azam added that the suspect would be remanded for seven days for investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, he could face the death penalty or life imprisonment and no less than 12 strokes of the cane. – Bernama
