KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from 38 individuals in connection with two separate shooting incidents in the capital this month, as investigations continue to identify the suspects involved.
For the shooting that took place outside the lobby of a shopping complex on Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras, on June 17, 19 individuals have so far given their statements to assist in the probe.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Aidil Bolhassan said police are still in the process of identifying those responsible.
“So far, no arrests have been made, but 19 individuals have had their statements recorded to assist in investigations,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (June 24).
The incident involved a group of men wearing black ski masks and travelling in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Two local men in their 40s were shot during the attack, which occurred at around 12.48am.
In a separate case, Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said police have also recorded statements from another 19 individuals in relation to a shooting outside a restaurant in the area on June 13.
Efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects involved, he added.
“Four individuals who were previously detained have been released on police bail after their statements were recorded,” he said.
Police have not ruled out the possibility that both shootings — which occurred within a span of four days — are linked to organised crime activities.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad previously said investigations suggest both incidents may be connected to secret societies.
The June 13 shooting in Brickfields resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others. The victims were reportedly shot at close range by one of two assailants on a motorcycle in front of the restaurant.
