KUALA LUMPUR: An express bus driver found himself in hot water after he failed a urine test during a roadblock here by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam, during a press conference at the Gombak JPJ enforcement station here yesterday, said the driver, in his 30s, tested positive for morphine after being stopped during the roadblock at the Gombak toll plaza yesterday.
“The bus he was driving was then taken over by its second driver, who tested negative,” he added.
Sources said he admitted to taking drugs.
As of June 9, the JPJ special operation for Hari Raya Aidiladha saw a total of 33,988 vehicles inspected, with 26 vehicles seized, Hamidi said.

“We checked the system and found the van’s LKM is under the category of private vehicle, but was being used to carry passengers.
“Among the vehicles seized in the special operation on foreign drivers included 13 motorcycles and a car, driven by a foreign national,” Siti Zarina said, Bernama reported.
She said during the operation, 6,774 vehicles were inspected under the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987, the Land Public Transport Act (LPTA) 2010 and related regulations.
She said the inspection found 974 vehicles had been issued with summonses for various offences.
She said among the offences were the use of mobile phones, drivers found smoking while driving and others related to the conduct of Public Service Vehicles.
