Woman swept away after car plunges into Triang River in Pahang


KUANTAN: A woman is feared drowned after the car she was in suddenly started moving and plunged into Sungai Triang near Bandar Baru Bera.

A spokesman for the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call at 1.58pm on Monday (June 9) and a team from the Triang Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the location.

He said witnesses at the scene said that the woman, 31, was fishing with her husband and one-year-old daughter.

"The victim and her child were in the car with while her husband was fishing nearby when the vehicle suddenly started moving towards the river.

"The husband managed to save the child from the car but the woman was swept away by strong currents," he said.

He added that a search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway involving 11 personnel, comprising six members from the Triang Fire and Rescue Station and five members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from the Bukit Angin Fire and Rescue Station. – Bernama
