Give me space to focus on haj, says Tengku Zafrul

SEPANG: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz is asking for "space" as he heads to Mecca to perform his haj following his decision to leave Umno.

"I'm requesting for all to give me space to focus on my haj and I also request prayers for myself, my wife and my family there.

"I would like to apologise if I have offended anyone. I will pray for the prosperity of the nation and the betterment of all Malaysians when I am in the Holy Land," said Tengku Zafrul when met by reporters at KLIA on Saturday (May 31).

He also declined to comment on calls for him to resign as Investment, Trade and Industry Minister.

"No comment. I want to focus on the haj and my family. I will leave this to the Prime Minister," he said.

Tengku Zafrul said he had thought deeply about his decision, and he was not forced by anyone to resign.

"Thank you once again to the Umno president and all members who have supported me during my time in the party," he said.

On Friday (May 30), Tengku Zafrul said he was resigning as Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja division leader and party member.

Tengku Zafrul quit as Selangor Umno treasurer in April 2024.
