SANDAKAN: An Indonesian labourer was jailed 15 years and ordered to be given 12 strokes of the rotan for raping his stepdaughter several times this year.
The 44-year-old was handed the sentence yesterday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting the girl four times between January and May.
The Sessions Court earlier heard that the offences were under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code and Section 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The accused and the 10-year-old girl were alone in their plantation quarters in Kinabatangan at the time of the offences, the court heard.
When the girl’s mother found out about the incidents, she lodged a police report at the Kinabatangan police station on May 20, which led to the arrest of the accused.
The girl was sent for a medical examination at the Duchess of Kent Hospital here.
Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal Zaini set sentence at 12 years and 10 strokes of the rotan for the first charge, and three years and two strokes of the rotan for the other, ordering the prison terms to run consecutively.
The accused will be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after completing his punishment.
