Man claims trial to dangerous cycling charge

SEREMBAN: A 56-year-old man claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court to a charge of cycling dangerously, which allegedly led to a fatal accident.

K Selva Natchathram pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah.

The accused was charged with committing the offence around 2.55pm on March 27 last year at Taman Desa Anggerik.

He was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, read with Section 54(1) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000 and jailed for up to 12 months or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor P. Rubini offered the accused a bail of RM1,000.

However, the accused, who was unrepresented, said he was unable to raise the amount as both he and his wife were no longer employed.

The court then allowed a bail of RM500, but the accused could not post bail.

The court fixed June 26 for remention.
