Final extension before 45-hour work week for nurses comes into effect on Aug 1

PETALING JAYA: The implementation of a 45-hour work week for government nurses has been postponed to Aug 1 and this is said to be the last time the government would be extending the moratorium.

This comes as the Public Service Department granted a two-month extension to the interim moratorium, which was initially slated to end on June 1.

The recent extension means that the moratorium would end on July 31.

the department said to the Health Ministry’s secretary-general in a letter dated May 28 that this is the last time an extension to the moratorium would be granted, and urged hospitals to strictly comply with the new working hours from Aug 1.

Nurses have previously opposed the new working hours, citing the lack of work life balance and added workload.

The moratorium was previously extended from March 1 to May 31 upon the request of the Health Ministry.
