Ramanan urges government to combat social media misinformation

JOHOR BARU: The government needs to actively counter the falsehoods being spewed on social media, says newly minted PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

He said that in the past, as the opposition, they were active in handling issues on social media.

"Now, as the government of the day, we have become weak. Are we too comfortable?

"We need to address all these allegations and falsehoods.

"If nothing is done to address and fact-check, people will believe this," he said, adding that it was important, especially with elections next year.

He added that the government has done a lot of programmes for the Indian community, and these should be highlighted so that they reach the grassroots.

Touching on the party elections, the Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister said that in any contest, some would be hurt and others happy.

He said it was important to move on, focus on the recovery and focus on the party direction, without taking the win or lost personally
