Man linked to Bachok acid attack arrested


KOTA BARU: Police have arrested a man in connection with the acid attack on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, last Saturday.

Bachok district police chief Supt Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin said the suspect was arrested at 4pm on Thursday at a rubber factory in Kuala Krai.

He said the 45-year-old man was detained to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

“Police will apply for a remand order for the suspect today to facilitate further investigations,” he told Bernama yesterday.

On Thursday, Bernama reported that a female suspect had been arrested at the same factory on suspicion of being involved in the incident.

Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 38-year-old woman was arrested at 4pm on Wednesday.

Last Saturday, a female trader was doused with a liquid believed to be acid by an unknown indivi­dual near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang, near Bachok.

The attack left the victim with severe burns on her shoulder, back, arms and legs.

She is currently reported to be in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian.
