Fire engulfs house and shop in Kampung Baru


KUALA LUMPUR: A house and a shop in Kampung Baru were engulfed in flames on Thursday (May 15) morning.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohamad Riduan Akhbar said the distress call was received at 7.15am, and added that 23 firemen from three fire stations were deployed to the scene.

A shop was completely torched while the house was 80% burnt.

The fire also destroyed a motorcycle, he said in a statement.

The fire was under control by 7.41am, he said.

"We managed to put it out fully by 8.38am. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is being investigated," he added.
